Traffic study for MRTS- Mumbai

Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) has planned the Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS). The assignment of Techno- Economic feasibility was entrusted to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). As a sub consultant to TCS, the traffic & transportation surveys were undertaken by Shri. Amol S. Khair. Traffic volume surveys and passenger occupancy surveys for screen lines in south Mumbai were conducted as part of the study. The passenger count and interception surveys at about 8 railway stations in Island City of Mumbai were undertaken. In order to access the passenger demand on the proposed corridor, stated preference surveys were undertaken.

The data collected during the above surveys was coded, digitised and preliminary analysis for appreciation of traffic & travel characteristics was undertaken and the report for the preliminary analysis was submitted to TCS as part of the assignment.

Traffic study for N.H.6 Bypass at Amaravati

The Amaravati Division, Public Works Department Govt. of Maharashtra invited bids for construction of 16 Km. long Amaravati Bypass on NH6. As a bidder, Zoom Developers were interested in bidding for the project. The traffic study and traffic demand estimates for proposed NH6 bypass was entrusted to AAKAR Enterprises. As part of the assignment traffic volume surveys, Origin-Destination surveys, Speed-Delay surveys were undertaken and the likely diverted traffic on NH6 was estimated by use of diversion curves and other sophisticated techniques.

Accident cost study for Ministry of Surface transport

In social cost benefit analysis of road project, the cost of accident becomes an important aspect, while deriving the monitory benefits from a project. The Ministry of Surface Transport (MOST) initiated a study for evaluating the cost of accident.

As part of the data collection and analysis, the data was collected for Mumbai and Pune city from Hospitals, Insurance companies, vehicle garages, and police stations. The data was compiled and analysed for appreciation of man-days lost, vehicle damage, loss of revenue etc. for arriving the cost of accident.

Traffic study for traffic diversion scheme for elevated viaducts in Mumbai for DAR consultants / MSRDC

An elevated viaduct was planned along the corridor J.J. Hospital to Manish Market, one of the main and busiest artery in Mumbai. During the execution of the elevated viaduct, the available road width for the traffic movement was going to be reduced. Hence the road network was studied and speed-flow relationships were established for the entire road network around the project site. Various alternative diversions were planned for vehicle movements. These alternatives were discussed with traffic police, Municipal authorities, execution agency and local people and the final route for diversion of vehicles during construction period was implemented.

Traffic and Transportation study for Worli - Bandra Sea link in association with Transport & Planning Group and Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai for Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation

The project Worli - Bandra Sea Link was structured as BOT project & MSRDC was declared as Entrepreneur for the project. The project has been conceived as toll project and in order to raise funds for the project, a detail traffic & transportation study was undertaken involving estimation of base year traffic, traffic forecasting, willingness to pay survey, and toll sensitivity analysis etc.

In order to estimate the base year traffic, traffic surveys involving traffic volume surveys, Origin-Destination surveys, Willingness to pay surveys etc. were undertaken. The data was analysed and the study report containing the preliminary analysis for traffic and travel characteristics etc. was submitted. Based on the traffic study and toll revenue figures HUDCO sanctioned the loan for this project.

Prioritisation study at 88 retail outlets of Bharat petroleum Corporation in Mumbai

The Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited has more than 100, Retail Outlets (R.O.)’s in Mumbai. Various chain of fast food joints, credit card companies were interested in opening their stall / shops at BPCL Retail outlets. In order to offer the R.O.’s for leasing, the prioritisation for retail outlets was desired by BPCL according to fuel sales, customers visited, catchment area etc.

Traffic surveys and analysis for prioritisation of Retail Outlets was undertaken as part of the study.

Prioritisation study for NH7 from Nagpur to Kanyakumari and on NH47 from Salem to Ernaculum for National Highway Authority of India

The project involved detailed traffic engineering study and prioritisation of National Highway NH7 and NH47 section, which needs improvement. The entire project road length of 2000 Km was divided into 20 sections of approximate length of 100 Km. Each section was studied in terms of traffic volume, capacity, travel characteristics, speeds and engineering improvements needed for the same. The economic evaluation for the each National Highway section was undertaken and priorities were decided based on sections giving maximum benefits.

The entire traffic study for 20 locations along NH7 & NH47 was organized by Aakar Enterprises and the traffic study identified the homogeneous sections. Traffic & travel characteristics corridor along the alignment were appreciated. Bottlenecks were identified the improvements needed were suggested. The vehicle damage factors were analysed for different axle configurations.

Traffic Study for the Widening and Strengthening of Satara – Kolhapur Section of NH4 for M.S.R.D.C.

The four laning of Satara - Kolhapur section of NH4 was undertaken by MSRDC as part of the Golden Quadrangle project. The project was envisaged as toll road and the revenue for the project has been envisaged through the traffic along the corridor. Hence Comprehensive traffic study was undertaken by MSRDC covering period of six months so as to get the idea of the Average daily traffic at various locations. The study was successfully completed and presented in the form of reports, which enabled MSRDC to arrive at the likely revenue generation from the project. The M.O.U. between NHAI and MSRDC has been signed on the basis of the traffic study figures.

Traffic Study for Pune and Nanded, Nandurbar, Solapur and Baramati city

The Road development of above mentioned cities has been envisaged through the toll revenue from the vehicles entering into the city. The feasibility study was entrusted to M/S. CRISIL by M.S.R.D.C. The traffic study for the project was in turn was undertaken for M/S. CRISIL. In the traffic study the detailed traffic surveys such as traffic volume surveys, Origin- Destination surveys willing ness to pay surveys were undertaken and the total volume of toll-able traffic was arrived after the analysis of the data. The toll revenue estimates and the traffic forecast was made by Aakar and was further used by CRISIL in the financial feasibility study.

Traffic Study for before and after opening of J.J. Flyover

The viaduct constructed from the J.J. Hospital to Manish Market is one of the longest via duct constructed in Mumbai. This via duct is likely to ease the traffic flow conditions along the central, western and Eastern corridors of Mumbai. In order to cheque the hypothesis that, this viaduct will attract traffic from eastern and Western corridors, a traffic study was initited by M.S.R.D.C. The study was entrusted to Aakar Enterprises. The study involves the traffic volume counts along the three screen lines of Mumbai before and after opening of J.J. flyover and analysis of various traffic characteristics along the screen lines and also arrive at the shift which has occurred from one screen line to the central corridor.

Traffic Study for Ro-Ro Service between Bhavnagar (Ghogha) & Dahej

Roll in – Roll out service has been planned between Bhavnagar (Ghogha) and Dahej, which will reduce the distance and travel time for trips destined travel to Saurashtra and Kutch region. In order to find the travel demand for this service, the traffic study was entrusted to M/s. AAKAR ABHINAV Consultants Pvt. Ltd. By M/s. GMS Services, Inc. USA.
